Established the Institute of Communications and Information Technologies of Cape Verde

By decision of the Government of Cape Verde, on 13 November 2003, it has been set up the Institute of Communications and Information Technologies (ICIT), which will start operating at the beginning of 2004 and whose mission is the regulation and development of the communications sector of Cape Verde.  Concretely, the ICIT will be responsible for the administration of the radio electric spectrum, the supervision, the technical setting, the regulation and inspection of the communications, as well as the promotion and the development of the communication and information technologies.

With this decision, it is extincted the Directorate General of Communications, created in 1991, with which ANACOM has established a cooperation protocol on 23 November 1993, under the cover of which the Cape Verde representatives have participated through training periods carried out regularly by ANACOM.

With the settlement of the ICIT - public institute endowed with administrative, financial and patrimonial autonomy - one expects the communications sector of Cape Verde to receive a new breath, at a time where new challenges come up, in special, concerning paid television and mobile communications.
