1st meeting of Mobile EWG - January 2018

The first meeting of the expert working group on Mobile (Mobile EWG) was held in Brussels last 18 January.

In the BEREC1 working plan for 20182, in the scope of strategic priority 3 on “enabling 5G and promoting innovation in network technologies”, BEREC defined four projects:

  • Best practices report on spectrum authorisation and award procedures with a view to considering their suitability to 5G;
  • Report and common position on infrastructure sharing;
  • Best practices report on coverage obligations with a view to considering their suitability to 5G;
  • Common position on monitoring mobile coverage.

BEREC’s Mobile EWG is the working group responsible for the four aforementioned projects and also for organising a workshop on ‘5G, IoT and Security’ in the scope of strategic activity 3.

Members of the Radio Spectrum Policy Group (RSPG) also participated in this meeting so they could learn about the activities BEREC plans to carry out in 2018 and the contributions expected on their part. It was nevertheless noted that the reports to develop will be exclusively by BEREC, with comments provided by the RSPG.

This first meeting basically served to present the various projects to carry out and organise activities so that the work could get under way. Several relevant documents were accordingly identified, which may support the respective development.
