5th meeting of CPG 19 - January 2018

The fifth meeting of CPG 19 for the preparation cycle ahead of the next World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-19) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) was held last 8-11 January in Budapest, chaired by Alexander Kühn of Germany. It was attended by 136 delegates from 32 administrations, 28 observers, 1 representative from the European Commission and 1 from the European Communications Office (ECO).

The CPG is in charge of preparing CEPT for WRC-19, supported by the four project teams set up at the beginning of the preparation cycle (CPG19 structure http://www.cept.org/ecc/groups/ecc/cpg/page/cpg19-structure/). Those project teams discuss and develop briefs and, when consensual, European common proposals (ECPs) concerning each of the WRC-19 agenda items assigned to them (CEPT Briefs and ECPs for WRC-19 http://www.cept.org/ecc/groups/ecc/cpg/page/cept-briefs-and-ecps-for-wrc-19/), which are next submitted for debate and approval by the CPG. Topic 10 on the agenda, concerning the agenda for WRC-23, was entrusted to PT-A, and topic 1.13 on spectrum for mobile/IMT above 6 GHz is being dealt with in the ECC PT1 group, which basically handles all questions linked to mobile service in CEPT.

The chairs of the CPG project teams presented the summaries of work carried out in the respective groups’ meetings since CPG19-4 (July 2017), as well as new drafts of the briefs for practically all WRC-19 agenda points. Based on the presented analyses and the manifested positions, CPG19-5 gave indications to the project teams to develop draft ECPs on the more consolidated topics, for presentation and debate at the next CPG meeting.

The sixth CPG meeting will be held on 26-29 June 2018 in Finland.
