Meeting of the ITU Policy Committee (Com-ITU) - December 2017

Com-ITU met last 13-15 December in Copenhagen. This committee chaired by Portugal is responsible for European coordination with a view to participation in activities of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The meeting mainly focused on preparing Europe’s participation in the next Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-18), to be held from 29 October to 16 November in Dubai. In this regard, meetings took place with the project teams (PTs) created to prepare that conference (PT on Financial, Management and Organisational Issues (PT FIMO) and PT Policy).

Also noteworthy were preparations for the next set of meetings of the Council working groups and the expert group on International Telecommunication Regulations (EG-ITRs), which will be held in January 2018. Note that Com-ITU agreed on two contributions to forward to the Council working group for preparation of the 2020-2023 Strategy and Finance Plan and for EG-ITRs.

A highlight was that Com-ITU also produced an assessment of the recent World Telecommunications Development Conference (WTDC-17), held last 9-20 October 2017 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Also significant was the holding of an information session on activities of the World Economic Forum, in the context of digital transformation.
