4th CPG19 meeting - July 2017

The fourth meeting of the Conference Preparatory Group (CPG19) for the preparation cycle of the next World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-19) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) was held last 4-7 July in the Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca, chaired by Alexander Kühn of Germany and attended by 103 delegates from 25 administrations, 21 observers, one representatives from the European Commission (CE) and two from the European Communications Office (ECO).

The CPG is in charge of preparing CEPT for WRC-19 and is supported by four project teams set up at the beginning of the prep cycle (CPG19 structure http://www.cept.org/ecc/groups/ecc/cpg/page/cpg19-structure/). Those teams are responsible for discussing and developing briefs and, when consensual, European common proposals (ECPs) for each of the WRC-19 agenda items (CEPT Briefs and ECPs for WRC-19 http://www.cept.org/ecc/groups/ecc/cpg/page/cept-briefs-and-ecps-for-wrc-19/) assigned to them, submitting them next for discussion and approval by the CPG. Item 10 of the WRC-23 agenda will for the time being remain under discussion in CPG19, while item 1.13 on “Spectrum for mobile/IMT above 6 GHz” will be dealt with in ECC PT1, which basically concentrates all matters linked to mobile service in CEPT.

The CPG project team chairs presented a summary of work carried out in the respective group meetings since CPG19-3 (March 2017). They also presented at this fourth CPG meeting new draft briefs for various WRC-19 agenda points, indicating whenever possible/consensual a proposed CEPT preliminary position. The first ECPs for consideration in the CPG will soon be drawn up.

The fifth meeting of the CPG group will be held on 8-11 January 2018 in Hungary.
