3rd meeting of the Conference Preparatory Group (CPG19) - March 2017

The third meeting of CEPT’s Conference Preparatory Group (CPG19) for the preparation cycle ahead of the next ITU World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-19) was held last 14-17 March in Feusisberg, Switzerland, chaired by Alexander Kühn of Germany. It was attended by 96 delegates from 22 administrations, 26 observers, and one representative each from the European Commission (EC) and the European Communication Office (ECO).

The CPG is responsible for preparing CEPT for WRC-19, supported by its four project teams created at the start of the WRC-19 preparation cycle (CPG19 structure Link externo.http://www.cept.org/ecc/groups/ecc/cpg/page/cpg19-structure/). The project teams are responsible for discussing and developing briefs and, when consensual, European common proposals (ECPs) for each of the WRC-19 agenda items (CEPT Briefs and ECPs for WRC-19 Link externo.http://www.cept.org/ecc/groups/ecc/cpg/page/cept-briefs-and-ecps-for-wrc-19/) they have been assigned, so they can next be submitted for discussion and approval of the CPG. Topic 10 on the agenda, “Agenda of WRC-23” will for the time being be discussed within CPG-19, while topic 1.13, “Spectrum for mobile/IMT above 6 GHz”, will be dealt with in ECC PT1, which basically groups all questions linked to mobile service in CEPT.

The heads of the CPG project teams summarised the work carried out at meetings of the respective groups since CPG19-2 (December 2016). Additionally, at this third CPG meeting they presented new drafts for briefs on various WRC-19 agenda points, indicating whenever possible/consensual a proposed CEPT preliminary position. When more consolidated positions begin to arise the first ECPs for consideration in the CPG will be prepared.

The next CPG meeting will be held this coming 4-7 July in Romania.
