The World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is celebrated annually on 17 May, this year under the theme "Big Data for Big Impact", as determined by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
In selecting this theme, the ITU is highlighting the potential of big data and is seeking to explore ways of transforming imperfect, complex and often unstructured data into valid information in the context of development.
In Portugal, celebrations are taking place at FPC - Fundação Portuguesa das Comunicações (Portuguese Communications Foundation), where, in addition to an institutional session, there will be a debate on "The Big Data Ecosystem", with the opening of exhibitions and a special activity for schools.
