The Resolution of the Council of Ministers No. 37-C/2016 was published on 8 July 2016 and specifies the required reserve capacity to extend the provision of programme services on the digital terrestrial television platform.
Given the reduced offer of content that has currently been shown, this has now opened the possibility to assign four new programme services.
The Government's option is that these four new programme services are shared between the public service operator and private operators, so as to ensure not only a greater amount of content, but also a greater diversity of programming. Thus, and after hearing Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP), the programme services of RTP3 and RTP Memória will be included in the digital terrestrial television network, without television advertising.
The other two television programme services will be awarded through public tender to grant the licence, to be launched in due course.
