Meeting of the CEPT Committee for ITU Policy (Com-ITU) - Lucerne

CEPT’s Com-ITU met last 26-28 April in Lucerne, Switzerland.

This Committee, chaired by Portugal, is responsible for European coordination of participation in activities of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The meeting’s session was attended by Chaesub Lee, director of the ITU’s Standardisation Office.

This meeting was devoted to preparing Europe’s participation in the next ITU World Telecommunications Standardisation Assembly, to be held in the last quarter of this year in Tunisia. The committee proceeded to determine the interests and main strategies that Europe and respective industry aim to see defended at that gathering.

The group agreed to appoint Paulius Vaina (Lithuania) to coordinate the project team (PT) to prepare for the 2017 World Telecommunications Development Assembly, and also agreed on the PT’s mandate.

Another predominant issue was preparation for the 2016 ITU Council session. In particular, the memorandum of understanding between the ITU and the DONA Foundation was discussed.

The next Com-ITU meeting is scheduled for this coming 6-9 September in Copenhagen.
