Beyond its focus on the European market, it is increasingly important for BEREC, within the scope of its powers, to hold dialogue with other stakeholders and interested parties outside the European Union.
In this regard, BEREC has organised an international mission to visit countries outside Europe, to gather knowledge about main activities of the respective country’s electronic communications market, exchange views about business models and promote bilateral relations.
Last 22-28 May the BEREC mission travelled to the United States of America (Boston, New York and Washington) to take part in various meetings with organisations and companies associated to the electronic information technologies and communications sector, specifically with universities, regulatory authorities, policymakers, content providers, electronic communications providers, start-ups, think tanks and investment funds.
The mission’s aim included discussion of issues such as the different regulatory models in Europe and the United States, future business models and investment prospects, the Internet of Things, (ultra) broadband or 5G.
