Copenhagen hosted last 9-11 May the 38th meeting of project team 44 (PT44) on satellite communications of the Frequency Management working group, chaired by Saidani of France and attended by 24 participants, encompassing a total of 13 administrations and various representatives of industry, specifically, AB5 Consulting, DJCSL (both representing OneWeb), Eutelsat, Inmarsat, SATEX Limited, Thales Alenia Space and ViaSat, Inc., representatives of radio-astronomy and the European Communications Office (ECO).
Various issues were considered at the meeting, of which the following agenda points stand out:
- revision of ECC Decisions;
- revision of ECC Report 66 on protection of aircraft against satellite terminal emissions;
- fixed and moving earth stations operating in the Ku band with non-geostationary satellite systems;
- analysis of technical use of bearer identification.
PT 44 analysed and discussed contributions received in the scope of the aforementioned agenda points; the various documents based on results of those discussions are being updated.
Also drawn up was a request to the European Aviation Safety Agency for assistance – a letter that should be sent by the ECC – to confirm the premises used in current aircraft protection regulations.
Finally and notably, work began on a draft new ECC Decision on harmonised use and individual licence exemption of fixed earth stations operating in the Ku band with non-geostationary satellite systems.
Plans call for the next (39th) meeting of PT44 to be held this coming 14-16 September.
