26th BEREC plenary meeting and IRG General Assembly - Rotterdam


The Board of Regulators (BoR), Management Committee (MC) and BEREC Office, as well as the General Assembly of the Independent Regulators Group (IRG), met last 25-26 February in the Dutch city of Rotterdam.

The following stood out among the various issues covered at BoR level:

  • approval of the report on the wholesale roaming market and of the revision of the guidelines on application of the Roaming Regulation following its modification by the Telecoms Single Market Regulation;
  • approval of reports on over-the-top services, the respective public consultation report and their benchmarking;
  • approval of the report on the internet of things along with the report from the respective public consultation.

At MC level a number of administrative questions concerning how the BEREC Office functions were considered.

The IRG General Assembly likewise dealt with administrative questions, a highlight being approval of the report on IRG activities in 2015 as well as the themes of workshops to be held in 2016.

On 24 February BEREC also held a two-session workshop on net neutrality. The first session was open to guest speakers, who gave presentations on various angles of that topic. The second, limited to national regulatory authorities, debated the preparation of BEREC’s guidelines on that subject, to be approved by 30 August 2016.
