On 3 March 2016, ANACOM approved the final decision declaring the expiration, as from 26 April 2012, of the regulatory obligations imposed on MEO - Serviços de Comunicações e Multimédia with respect to the market of wholesale supply of television broadcasting services via analogue terrestrial networks.
With the conclusion of the process of transition from analogue terrestrial television to digital terrestrial television (switch-off), which occurred on 26 April 2012, the market of wholesale supply of television broadcasting services via analogue terrestrial networks ceased to exist, given the discontinuation of analogue terrestrial transmissions. As a result, the obligations imposed on MEO (as undertaking declared as having SMP) expired by lack of application, whereby the effects of this expiry are to have effect from that date.
The corresponding draft decision was duly notified to the European Commission (EC), which responded to the notification on 19 February without comment, and likewise to the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) and the national regulatory authorities (NRA) of the remaining Member States of the European Union.
