Meeting of Study Group 3 - Geneva

Geneva hosted last 16-20 March a meeting of Study Group 3 of the ITU Telecommunication Standardisation Sector (ITU-T), responsible for dealing with political and regulatory issues in the telecommunications sector.

The main subject of discussion was the set of proposals put forward by various member states from different regions with a view to drawing up a new recommendation on international roaming. Those proposals generally coincide regarding a willingness to strengthen the mechanisms regulators use to control wholesale and retail international roaming prices. Due to the different viewpoints presented, a decision was made to continue consideration of the subject via a drafting group mandated to consolidate the different proposals presented on the matter.

SG3 also agreed to begin an important set of new working items which include matters such as the impact of over-the-top (OTT) in the telecoms sector, mobile financial services and the drawing up of a new recommendation on market analyses.
