The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is promoting the annual ''ITU Telecom World: Young Innovators Competition'', in the context of the ''ITU Telecom World 2014'' conference, taking place from 7 to 10 December 2014 in Doha, Qatar. As part of this competition, and in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), the ITU has launched its third challenge, on the theme ''Smart Cities and Climate Change''.
This challenge seeks to bring together innovative ideas about how information and communication technology (ICT) might help reduce or mitigate the effects of climate change and so improve people's health.
The competition is open to anyone aged between 18 and 30, and entries close on 7 October.
The aim of the first challenge was to find projects related to ''local digital content'', inspiring creativity, aggregation and digitalisation of local content, while the aim of the second challenge was to identify innovative and free disaster management software technologies.
