Meeting of the Committee for ITU Policy (Com-ITU) - Amsterdam

Amsterdam hosted last 26-28 May a meeting of CEPT Com-ITU. This committee chaired by Marcin Krasuski of Poland is in charge of coordinating European participation in activities of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The gathering basically focused on preparing European positions for the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-14) to be held from this coming 20 October to 7 November in Busan, South Korea.

Proposals concerning the following issues were therefore discussed: i) public policy issues associated to the internet; ii) deliberate interference in telecommunication satellites; iii) the ITU's role in applying results of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS); iv) function of the ITU Radio Regulations Board; v) more participation by teaching and research bodies in the Union’s work; vi) the ITU’s project approval procedure; and vii) the role of telecommunications in mitigating the effects of climate change.

As no consensus was achieved on any of the proposals, they will be discussed again at the next Committee meeting and may then be approved as European common proposals (ECPs) to submit at PP-14.

Com-ITU will next meet this coming 15-18 September in Berlin.
