Meeting of PT FNI of WG NaN - Riga

The Latvian capital Riga hosted last 6-7 May the 21st meeting of the project team on Future Numbering Issues (FNI) of the ECC's Numbering and Networks group (WG NaN). The participating regulators discussed the latest information about numbering, especially the use of mobile network codes (MNC).

With this in mind a contribution was prepared for submission to the June 2014 meeting of Study Group 2 (SG2) of the International Telecommunication Union Telecommunications Standardisation Sector (ITU-T), which proposes changes to Recommendation E.212 to make the MNC assignment criteria flexible. This proposal is in line with the conclusion of ECC Report 212 on "Evolution in the use of E.212 MNCs", posted at ECC Report 212 - Evolution in the Use of E.212 Mobile Network Codeshttp://www.erodocdb.dk/Docs/doc98/official/pdf/ECCREP212.PDF.

This meeting also witnessed development of a proposed decision and a recommendation on 'extraterritorial' use and allocation of E.164 numbers, setting out the general principles mentioned in ECC Report 194 on "Extraterritorial use of E.164 numbers", which will be submitted for consideration at the next WG NaN meeting.
