Meeting of the Council of EU Ministers of Transport, Telecommunications and Energy


The Council of Ministers of Transport, Telecommunications and Energy of the European Union (EU) met on 5 and 6 June in Luxembourg, under the Greek presidency.

As regards telecommunications, progress reports were presented at the Council on the draft directive on security of electronic communication networks and information systems across the EU, as well as the draft amendment to the EU telecommunications regulatory framework - the "Connected Continent" package.

The Council also approved a directive on the reduction of broadband costs, and was briefed on the expected agreement in July this year, on the draft regulation on electronic identification and trust services and the latest developments associated with the draft directive on web accessibility.

The incoming Italian Presidency, which begins on 1 July 2014, presented its programme for telecommunications; the presidency will focus its work on the telecommunications single market proposal.
