14th Global Symposium for Regulators - ANACOM Presentation

João Confraria, member of ANACOM's Management Board, has taken part in the 14th Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR-14), speaking at the session on investment in high-speed broadband networks. The Symnposium, which was organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), was held from 3 - 5 June 2014, in Manama, Bahrain.

João Confraria reported on Portugal's good positioning in terms of the country's coverage by mobile and fixed high-speed broadband infrastructure. He highlighted the importance of the regulator's role in ensuring good performance in terms of investment in infrastructure, while stressing that, in order to stimulate investment, healthy competition in the market was crucial. The debate that followed the speakers' opening remarks focused largely on the role of the State in promoting investment in next generation networks and in defining rules to govern access to essential infrastructure.

The session, moderated by Kamal Shehadi (Etisalat), saw participation by Gonzalo Ruiz Díaz (Organismo Supervisor de Inversión Privada en Telecomunicaciones - OSIPTEL, Peru), Paarock VanPercy (National Communication Authority, Ghana), Deepak Mathur (SES) and Pablo Pfost (Telefónica).
