ANACOM publishes leaflet on NET.mede

ANACOM will conduct a widespread campaign to publicise its NET.mede application, through provision of a leaflet to inform consumers about this new tool, which they consumers can use to test their Internet connections speed.

NET.mede was launched on 2 December 2013, with the aim of promoting better information and greater transparency in the relationship between users and operators of this service. In conjunction with Direção Geral do Consumidor (Directorate General for the Consumer), the leaflet will be distributed at general jurisdiction arbitration centres and at different municipal locations where information is provided to consumers.

NET.mede can be used by Internet users to make a comparison between the speed obtained as a result of the tests and the maximum speed contracted with their service provider. The test provides information on download, upload speeds and on connection delays.

NET.mede can also be used to test for traffic shaping; a mechanism used by operators to manage Internet traffic by applying restrictions on traffic and contracted speeds. After selecting the protocol to be tested - BitTorrent and Flash Video - users can check whether or not there is evidence of traffic shaping on their connection.

Users of the tool can consult and export their test results.
