UPAEP Advisory and Executive Committee - Montevideo


The annual session of UPAEP's Advisory and Executive Committee (AEC) was held last 12-14 March in Montevideo, Uruguay, preceded by meeting of the working groups (WGs) on Reform of the Union and Terminal Charges, the Strategic Planning and Operational Aspects meetings, and the Regulation Forum.

At the Regulation Forum results of the study conducted by the WG on Postal Regulation were presented, specifically concerning the training needs of each member, and the importance of postal reform being conducted in a manner specific to each country was highlighted. At the organisers' request, Portugal presented the reasons for regulating in a liberalisation context.

As usual, the issues concerning financing, technical cooperation and strategy were the main topics on the AEC's agenda. Also, the WG on Reform of the Union presented the respective proposal to update the General Secretariat's duty manual. The AEC likewise adopted several decisions concerning the Union's 2015 budget, the UPAEP action plan for 2014, the appointment of a group of validating countries and the general secretariat's management indicators for 2014.

Lastly, the cooperation agreement between UPAEP and the International Association of Portuguese Language Communications (AICEP) was approved.

The next session of the AEC has been scheduled for 16-20 March 2015.
