The Unidade de Missão Inovação e Conhecimento (UMIC) - (Innovation and Knowledge Mission Unit), entity that coordinates the governmental projects concerning the information society, has launched the Community Networks, Broadband Incubators and Broadband Contents actions following the presentation of the National Initiative for the Broadband, made by the Government on the past 10 July.

With the Community Networks action, the UMIC invites autarchies and city council associations to show interest up to 31 October, aiming at the implementation, until 2005, of broadband community networks allowing the connection, with attractive conditions, to the parishes of 15 needy municipalities.

The Broadband Incubators action aims at, on the other hand, the establishment of 5 incubating centers for service, contents and broadband internet application enterprises. Interested parties should express the respective interest up to 15 October.

The dynamization of the Portuguese language in the broadband Internet is the objective of the Broadband Contents action which, in articulation with the launching of the “Broadband Contents” edict of more specific scope and within Programa Operacional Sociedade da Informação (POSI) – (Information Society Operational Program) framework, demands the presentation, up to 15 October, of contents and applications development projects in Portuguese for broadband Internet, from all the intervening entities in the sector.

On the other hand, it was also extended, up to 30 September, the period for presentation of candidatures around Axle III – “Open State” of the POSI that includes services and bodies of the central public administration.
