World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-14)

The next World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-14) is being held from 30 March to 10 April, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, focusing on the theme "Broadband for Sustainable Development".

This event of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) - the specialist United Nations agency for telecommunications and the information society - takes place every 4 years and seeks to define the general policy and procedures of the ITU Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D).

In particular, it falls to the WTDC to establish work programmes for the areas considered priorities for the development of telecommunications, as well as to give guidance to ITU-D activities over the following four years.

WTDC-14 will be preceded by the Executive Strategic Dialogue on the application of broadband to sustainable development, which will facilitate the debate on trends, challenges and opportunities for the telecommunications/information and communication technology (ICT) sector.

Portugal's participation will be provided by ANACOM, as representative of the Portuguese administration at the ITU. ANACOM has subscribed to a set of common European positions which, in its view, constitute a valid contribution to the ITU's activity and, in parallel, enhance the cohesion of European positions to be put forward at WTDC-14.
