Forum and regional preparatory meeting for the World Telecommunications Development Conference - Belgrade

The Serbian capital Belgrade hosted last 25-28 November 2013 the Regional Development Forum and the regional preparatory meeting for the World Telecommunications Development Conference (WTDC), events organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in which Portugal participated.

Speakers at the Regional Development Forum included representatives from various major stakeholders, such as governments, international organisations, operators and academics. The Forum was divided into four sessions: Speeding up Broadband Ubiquity, Smart Policy Making and Regulation, Capacity Building for an Evolving ICT Ecosystem, Reinforcing Impact of ICTs: Towards Knowledge Societies.

Regarding the regional WTDC preparatory meeting, held on 26-28 November, Europe continued its coordination work for that conference. In particular, progress was made regarding the identification of regional initiatives that help achieve Europe’s priorities for WTDC. The participants also examined topics for future work by the ITU Telecommunications Development Sector (ITU-D), including working methods.
