2nd meeting of the Council working group on the 2016-2019 strategy and financial plan - Geneva

The second meeting of the ITU Council working group for preparation of the Union’s strategy and financial plans for the 2016-2019 period was held last 13-14 November in Geneva.

Chaired by Mario Canazza of Brazil, the group highlighted the main suggestions resulting from the consultation launched by the Secretary General: well defined strategic goals; alignment with the overall development agenda; opting for enhanced cooperation and multistakeholderism; continuing efforts in the cyber-security area; and to be people centred.

This group also focused on arranging the structure of the strategy plan and preparing a glossary of key terms. During the discussions the members clearly showed their concern about the need to prioritise activities, bearing in mind existing resources. In this regard, the important link between the ITU’s strategy plan and financial plan was also dealt with.

Regarding the latter, the main premises for its production were determined, specifically the realistic calculation of personnel costs, long term needs (pensions, health insurance, etc) and non-use of the reserve fund.

This working group will next meet on 26-27 February 2014 in Geneva.
