On 19 November 2013, the European Commission (EC) approved new rules to simplify the European Small Claims Procedure, whose goal is to resolve small claim disputes in civil and commercial matters.
The EC proposal seeks, in particular:
- to raise the threshold for filing a small claim;
- Widen the definition of what is a ''cross-border'' case;
- cap court fees;
- cut paperwork and travel costs.
