BEREC EWG NGN meeting - Brussels

Brussels hosted last 19-20 September a meeting of the BEREC expert working group on Next Generation Networks (EWG-NGN), which focused on products for bitstream access/unbundled local access (VULA) and the internet interconnection protocol (IP) in the context of the recent European Commission (EC) proposal to establish a single market for electronic communications.

Various issues associated to developments involving wholesale products for accessing the broadband network (bitstream, VULA and IP access, Ethernet access) were discussed, including aspects associated to a future harmonised Europe-wide wholesale supply, as proposed by the EC. The participants also discussed development of the IP interconnection, specifically the latest developments in France, as well as the EC’s proposal to established wholesale IP interconnection products with guaranteed quality of service to be made available throughout the European Union (EU).
