44th ECC PT1 meeting - Ljubliana

The Slovenian capital Ljubljana served as venue last 9-13 September for the 44th meeting of working group ECC PT1 (International Mobile Telecommunications - IMT), chaired by Didier Chaveau.

ECC PT1 is responsible for all issues concerning IMT. Among others, its mission is to develop harmonisation measures for bands identified for the IMT system, including respective channels, to conduct sharing/compatibility studies when the IMT system is involved and to coordinate European positions within the International Telecommunication Union Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R).

A highlight of this meeting was the completion of work on revision Decision ERC (98)22 on "individual licence exemption for equipment associated to digital enhanced cordless telecommunication (DECT) systems", taking into account comments received by CEPT during the public consultation. The decision will thus be submitted to CEPT with a view to its final approval.

Regarding the 700 MHz band, it is important to note the start of work to identify the minimum technical conditions (including channels) applicable to electronic communication systems, which ensure sharing and compatibility with other systems.

Lastly, note that ECC PT1 will submit to the ECC a draft revision of Decision ECC (06)07 (MCA - mobile communications on board aircraft), bearing in mind the sharing studies as per ECC Report 187, thereby enabling exploitation of the 2 GHz (UMTS) and 1800 MHz (LTE) bands as 'connectivity' bands on board aircraft.
