Consultation on European Commission's Green Paper on parcel delivery

The European Commission (EC) has launched a public consultation, which closes on 22 February 2013, on its Green Paper on EU parcel delivery services.

The EC identifies three priority areas to address the problems and challenges faced by e-retailers and consumers in the EU:

  • Improving convenience of delivery services for consumers and SMEs across the EU;

  • ensuring more cost effective delivery solutions and better prices for consumers and SMEs;

  • promoting improved interoperability of delivery services between operators, and between operators and e-retailers, notably SMEs.

The consultation's aim is to find answers to these problems and challenges and identify how to make parcel delivery services in the EU more efficient.

Based on the contributions received, in spring 2013, the EC will present the findings of this consultation with a set of actions to take for completing the single market for parcels.
