WCIT-12 information session - Geneva

Geneva hosted last 8-9 October an information session about the World Conference on International Telecommunications (WCIT-12), which will be held from 3-14 December in Dubai and is meant to finish the process of revising an international treaty, the International Telecommunication Regulations.

The session witnessed the presentation of proposals from the Africa Telecommunications Union (ATU), Inter-American Telecommunications Commission (CITEL), Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT), European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) and Regional Commonwealth in the field of Communications (RCC). The European proposals were presented by Portugal.

Besides the regional proposals, some member states that submitted individual proposals (USA, Indonesia and Hungary) for WCIT-12 were likewise asked to present those proposals at this session.

Organisational issues regarding the conference were also discussed, specifically the structure, committee chairs and time management plan.
