62nd WG SE meeting - Wroclaw

The 62nd meeting of the ECC Spectrum Engineering working group (WG SE) was held last 10-14 September in the Polish city of Wroclaw, attended by about 50 participants, including the European Communications Office (ECO) observer and representatives of industry and/or operators: ASP, ANITEC, ERICSSON, Geyser-Telecom, GIFAS, NARFA POL, NEC, Orange Labs Poland, Robert Bosch GmbH and TeliaSonera AB.

The following documents were approved, after the consultation phase:

  • Revision of ECC Report 128 on Pseudolites;
  • Draft ECC Report on "Improving Spectrum Efficiency in SRD Bands";
  • Revision of ECC Report 150 on "Compatibility Studies between RDSS and Other Services in the Band 2483.5-2500 MHz".

The following documents were preliminarily adopted and forwarded for public consultation:

  • Draft new ECC Report on 3GMCA;
  • Draft ECC Report 185 on "Further Definition of Technical and Operational Requirements for the Operation of White Space Devices in the Band 470-790 MHz";
  • Draft ECC Report 186 on "Technical and Operational Requirements for the Operation of White Space Devices under Geo-location Approach".

New tasks were created, specifically concerning:

  • Compatibility study in the 1452-1492 MHz band (S-DAB) in order to establish less restrictive technical conditions (i.e. BEM) for mobile (DL) applications, among others;
  • Creation of fixed service channels, multiples of 50 MHz for the 71-76 GHz and 81-86 GHz band;
  • Creation of fixed service channels, for the 92-94 GHz and 94.1-95 GHz band;
  • Analysis of the extension of authorised band to FSS (currently 19.7-20.2 GHz) so as to include the 17.7-19.7 GHz band (allocated to FS), as well as the 17.3-17.7 GHz band (where BSS feeder links operate).

The group is still examining whether to introduce Broadband Direct-Air-to-Ground Communications (BDA2GC) as described in the SRDocs (ETSI TR 103 054 and ETSI TR 103 054) in the 5855-5875 and 2 GHz (unpaired) frequency band. Note that studies show that the 1670-1675 MHz/1800-1805 MHz (old TFTS band), 2400-2483.5 MHz and 3.4-3.6 GHz bands have been abandoned.

The next meeting of the Spectrum Engineering group will be held from 28 January to 1 February 2013 in the German city of Lübeck.
