World Post Day 2012 - celebrations in Portugal

Celebrated worldwide on 9th October, World Post Day is being marked in Portugal with a ceremony at FPC - Fundação Portuguesa das Comunicações (Portuguese Communications Foundation), which will be attended by ANACOM's vice-chairman, José Manuel Perdigoto, and Chairman of CTT - Correios de Portugal, Francisco de Lacerda.

During this commemorative session, the prizes for the "2012 Letter-writing competition" will be awarded, in the 9-11 age group to Daniela Júnior Reis from Pessegueiro do Vale, Santa Maria da Feira, and in the 12-15 age group to Ana Inês Amorim Marques from Guimarães. The letter of the second of these prizes has gone on to represent Portugal at the International letter-writing competition organized by the Universal Postal Union (UPU).

The theme of the 2013 UPU letter-writing competition is "Write someone a letter explaining why water is a precious resource".

The commemorative ceremony being held at the FPC includes the launch of the "Correio Escolar" stamp issue and the project offering CTT and FPC Editions to Municipal Councils, as well as the opening of the exhibition "Portugal Connosco, o olhar dos carteiros" (Portugal with us, the look of postmen).

The session is due to be closed by the Minister for the Economy and Employment, Álvaro Santos Pereira.
