World Post Day is celebrated on 9 October, the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874, in Berne (Switzerland). In Portugal, the day will be marked with a ceremony organized by FPC - Fundação Portuguesa das Comunicações (Portuguese Communications Foundation).
In his message on this day, the UPU Director General, Edouard Dayan, stresses that Posts are an integral part of the digital world and that Posts must continue to innovate, developing efficient and accessible postal services and exploiting new technologies to diversify and improve services. He also states that government support is crucial for the postal sector to function as a driver of national economies.
