Pan-European Survey of Practices, Attitudes and Policy Preferences as regard Personal Identity Data Management

This study presents the results of a survey about people's behaviours, attitudes and regulatory preferences concerning data protection, privacy and electronic identity, both on the Internet and generally in their daily lives.

The document compiles information about the habits of users, the type of information they provide online and their perception, in terms of safety and security, as to how such information is used; the findings demonstrate that European citizens support stronger security in terms of data privacy and the protection of identity rights.

The study, prepared by Joint Research Centre, Institute for Prospective Technological Studies, at the request of the European Commission (EC), is based on over 26,000 interviews, carried out with users aged 15 years and over, living in the 27 Member States of the European Union (EU). The interviews were conducted between 25 November and 17 December 2010, and 1046 of the interviews were carried out in Portugal.
