ITU - Finalists of ''Young Innovation for Development'' competition selected

On 6 September 2012 the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) announced the twelve finalists of the competition for young entrepreneurs and innovators on the theme "Young Innovation for Development".

The competition aims to find practical innovative digital solutions that meet real-world development challenges within the following areas: economic development, education, human rights, healthcare, environmental sustainability, and transparency and cybersecurity.

The twelve finalists were chosen within each category for having projects with a larger social impact and potential business success, thereby showing the breadth of youth innovation and the depth of technological applications. There were 400 candidates in this year’s competition, aged from 18 to 25 and coming from 77 countries.

The selected finalists will participate in the "ITU Telecom World 2012" conference, to be held in Dubai from 14 to 18 October 2012. There they will have the opportunity to take part in mentorship tutorials with high-level industry representatives, to attend hands-on workshops to develop entrepreneurial skills, and to showcase their projects to the public.

The theme of the 2012 edition of "ITU Telecom World" is "Telecommunications in transformation". It aims to discuss, identify and explore the impact of new technologies and of practical and innovative ideas on the current revolution in information and communication technologies (ICT). The event will be attended by government leaders, industry representatives, and digital entrepreneurs/innovators.
