On 1 July 2012, Cyprus took over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) for a period of six months. This concludes the presidential trio begun with Poland (in the second half of 2011) and followed by Denmark (in the first half of 2012)
The Cypriot presidency has set out four key priorities for its term: A Europe that is more efficient and sustainable, with a better performing and growth economy, with more solidarity and social cohesion and a Europe closer to its neighbours.
