ANACOM takes up vice-presidency of EMERG in 2012 and presidency in 2013

ANACOM is to assume the vice-presidency of the Euro-Mediterranean Network of Regulators (EMERG), following elections held at the network's plenary meeting in Cairo on 14 and 15 March 2012. Next year, ANACOM will take on the network's presidency and will lead EMERG's restructuring and consolidation process. This includes addressing the issue of the continuation of funding from the European Commission (EC) in the new multi-year financial framework of 2014-2020, an issue which has already been discussed at the plenary session.

In 2012, EMERG's activities will be coordinated by the current presidency, held by Egypt's National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA), with support from ANACOM and other members appointed to the secretariat: Comisión del Mercado de las Telecomunicaciones (CMT) of Spain, Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Lebanon, and Autorità per le Garanzie nelle Comunicazioni (AGCOM) of Italy.

EMERG brings together representatives of regulators from the electronic communications sector across the Mediterranean region, including members of the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC), from North Africa and the Middle East.
