Following the schedule for the first phase of the plan to switch off analogue terrestrial television transmissions in Portugal (the switch-off plan), the transmitter at São Macário is to be switched off today, along with the relays at Préstimo, Viseu, Cedrim, Vouzela, Vale de Cambra, Covas do Monte, Santa Maria da Feira, Arouca, Rio Arda, Lalim, Vila Nova de Gaia, Foz, Valongo, Santo Tirso, Caldas de Vizela, Caldas de Vizela II, Amarante, Gondar, São Domingos, Ancede, Caldas de Aregos, Resende, Lamego and Santa Marta de Penaguião.
The switch off of the transmitter at São Macário concludes the first phase of the national switch off. The second phase takes place on 22 March 2012, in the Autonomous Regions of the Azores and Madeira.
