Public Consultation - Fixed Wireless Access (FWA)

/ Updated on 27.06.2003

About three and half years after the attribution of licenses for fixed wireless access (FWA), the Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações (ANACOM) intends to characterize the current situation of the FWA and its decisive factors, as well as the perspectives of this system's development, launching therefore a public consultation.

Since 1999, when 11 FWA licenses were attributed, two of the companies licensed then have ceased their activity. On the other hand, it is recognized that the implementation state of FWA systems did not assume the projection, the dynamics and the potential assumed at the time of the attribution of the licenses: The number of installed basic stations, the coverage as well as the services supported by FWA systems, were inferior to the initially foreseen.

This auscultation is directed to some intervening parties on the market, including licensed, authorized and registered entities to offering telecommunication services, sector associations and consumer organisations, and to all directly or indirectly interested parties in general.

Comments to this consultation must be sent, preferably electronically, to sistemafwa@anacom.pt, or to ANACOM headquarters, until June 25, 2003.
