World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly

The World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly 2004 (WTSA-04) is being held from the 5 to 14 October in Florianópolis, Brazil, promoted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which works have as main objective to study the reorganization of the Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T).

The world telecommunication technologies and services standardization, the establishment of principles for the realization of agreements on the connections for international traffic in the Internet, as well as the debate on the network and mobility of the third generation mobile systems (UMTS/IMT-2000) are some of the issues that will be discussed in this Assembly.

Preparation of the Portuguese participation was coordinated within the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT), namely in the project team formed for that purpose (PT WTSA-04) and the ITU working group (WG ITU) of the Electronic Communications Committee (ECC). - Chairmen and Vice-Chairmen of the Study Groups;

- Amendments to Resolution 22, regarding working methodologies;

- Revision of Resolution 20, aiming to reinforce this resolution, empowering ITU-T to take efficient measures in case of misuse of the numbering resources;

- Co-realization of Study Group meetings, aiming to introduce rationalization of those meetings;

- Coordination of the telecommunication standardization advisory group (TSAG), aiming at developing its role of leading and following up ITU-T study groups by amending Resolutions 1 and 22.
