The official inauguration of Cybercentre of Beja took place on 4th of February at 11 o’clock. The availability of such facilities was promoted by ICP-ANACOM, FDTI (Fundação para a Divulgação das Tecnologias de Informação) and NERBE/AEBEL (Associação Empresarial do Baixo Alentejo e Litoral) and was presided by the Adjoint Minister of the Prime Minister. The Youth Secretary of State, the Local Governor, as well as the ANACOM, IPJ, FDTI and Nerbe/Aebel Chairmen were among the several local and national entities present in the ceremony and expressed their wishes of success for this extremely important local and national initiative.
Cities such Bragança, Castelo Branco, Covilhã and Guimarães have already such centres in full activity, with the main objective of promoting the practice and use of information, multimedia and communication technologies, being also a meeting point of local population and students.
It has been the joint responsibility of ANACOM and FDTI to launch and implement these knowledge and information centres, in articulation with local partners, as a way of putting in practice the goals set in eEurope 2000 approved by the Feira European Council Meeting.
