Meeting of working group 4B of Study Group 4 - Geneva


Geneva hosted last 5-9 July the sixth meeting of working group 4B, which covers issues linked to the performance and availability objectives of fixed satellite service (FSS), broadcasting satellite service (BSS), mobile satellite service (MSS), including applications using internet protocol (IP), and satellite news gathering (SNG) systems.

The work was carried out in three subgroups, responsible for the following topics:

  • Subgroup 4B1: Issues concerning performance and aspects of IP-based systems;
     
  • Subgroup 4B2: Issues concerning satellite broadcasting;
     
  • Subgroup 4B3: Other issues.

The work led to the production of 10 documents, of which the following stand out:

  • Preliminary draft of new ITU-R Report S.[IPQoS-RPT] on architecture and mechanisms of quality of service (QoS) and their supply to IP-based satellite networks;
     
  • Draft of new ITU-R Report ITU-R S.[MULTI-CARRIER] on multi-carrier transmission techniques for satellite systems;
     
  • Draft of new ITU-R Recommendation S.[MULTI-CARRIER] on multi-carrier transmission techniques for satellite systems;
     
  • Preliminary draft of revision of ITU-R Recommendation SNG.770-1 on uniform operating procedures for digital satellite news gathering (DSNG);
     
  • Preliminary draft of revision of ITU-R Recommendation BO.1516 on digital multi-program television systems used by satellites operating in the 11/12 GHz frequency bands.
