The volume of sales made by e-commerce companies in Portugal grew in the third quarter of 2006, according to the results of the ''Quarterly Barometer of Electronic Commerce in Portugal - 3rd quarter 2006'', released recently by Associação do Comércio Electrónico em Portugal (ACEP - Portuguese Association for E-commerce) and by the company Netsonda.

Based on a survey of ACEP members, the results show that over 90% of the companies surveyed reported an increase in the volume of sales during the quarter when compared to the same period of 2005, with 15% of them reporting that the increase had been 50% or more.

The Barometer also showed that, compared to the 3rd quarter of 2005, there had been an increase in the number of customers making purchases on the sites of the companies surveyed. Around 75% of the companies reported an increase in customer numbers of between 1% and 50%, while around 19% of the companies reported increases in excess of 50%.

Looking at investment levels, the results show that the majority of the companies surveyed (around 60%) had maintained the same level of investment in their sites as the same quarter of year before, while around 38% of the companies had increased investment levels.

Finally, when it comes to the types of product and service with the most transactions, electronic products (including mobile phones) came out on top, reported by 37.5% of the companies surveyed, followed by computer products (31.3%) and games and consoles with around 22%.
