The European Commission has adopted a Communication on the flexible use of the radio spectrum in the EU - ''Rapid access to spectrum for wireless electronic communication services through more flexibility''.
This Communication of 8 February is a result of close cooperation between the Commission and Member States under the scope of Radio Spectrum Policy Group (RSPG). It sets out the key steps that need to be taken by 2010 in view of the European preparation for a more flexible spectrum management approach, especially in those bands with private usage rights.
The Commission is also proceeding with a set of concrete actions, based on the current regulatory framework, in order to address cases where the need for a more flexible approach to spectrum management is urgent.
