Meeting of working group on Implementation of WSIS Results - Geneva


The 17th meeting of the working group in charge of implementing results of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) met last 17-18 June in Geneva. This gathering also included a 17 June meeting of the group devoted to international public policy issues involving the internet.

At this meeting of the WG in charge of implementing the WSIS results, a balance was presented regarding a number of recent initiatives such as World Telecommunications and Information Society Day and the 2010 WSIS Forum. The delegates also discussed the ITU’s renewal in order to adjust it to its role as a driving force for the information society.

Also in the scope of this gathering, but in the meeting of the group devoted to international public policy issues involving the internet, subjects such as the “Internet of the Future”, “Internet Management” and the “Impact of IPv6 Implementation Delays in Public Policies Concerning IPv4” were debated. Among other steps, this group instructed the secretary-general to continue the ongoing activities associated to development of the “Internet of the Future”.
