Belgium assumes Presidency of the European Union

Belgium takes over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union (UE) for the second half of 2010, as Spain's term ended.

The Belgian Presidency´s program, already available on-line, establishes various objectives in the telecommunications sector, focusing on the implementation of several actions which constitute the Digital Agenda for Europe (essential element in the Europe2020 Strategy) and starting to work on adoption of the radio-electric spectrum strategy.

The Council will also analyse a new proposal for a European Commission Regulation concerning the security of networks and information. Upon approval of the regulation, the Council will confer a new mandate on European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA). The Belgian Presidency expects to examine the interim report of the Commission regarding service prices of roaming and to organise an exchange of views between the Member States of the EU to adopt the Council´s conclusions on the European strategy for broadband access, predicting availability of the services to all European citizens by 2013.

Based on the proposal by the EC, the Belgian Presidency is committed to adopt the 2015 e-government action plan.
