Frequency usage rights reserved for BWA - public consultation

On 6 November ANACOM launched a public consultation on the draft decision adopted on 31 October 2007 on the limitation of the number of frequency usage rights reserved for Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) in the 3400-3800 MHz frequency bands and on the respective allocation procedure.

This draft decision sets out the adoption of the following measures:

  • To limit the number of new frequency usage rights reserved for BWA, taking into account the division of territory into zones as set forth in the annex to Order no 1062/2004 of 25 August as follows: i) two frequency usage rights in each geographic zone, each corresponding to 1 block of 2x28 MHz, in the 3400 3600 MHz sub-band; and ii) two frequency usage rights in each geographic zone, each corresponding to 1 block of 2x28 MHz, in the 3600-3800 MHz sub-band;

  • to define the allocation procedure of these frequency usage rights as being by auction; and

  • to amend the National Frequency Allocation Plan (NFAP) accordingly.

Interested parties have a period of 20 working days to submit written comments. These should therefore be submitted no later than 4 December 2007, preferably by email to consultabwa@anacom.pt.

Once the consultation process is completed, the responses received will be published on this website. Therefore, interested parties should clearly mark any items considered confidential.

This draft decision is adopted subsequent to ANACOM's consultation on the introduction of BWA in Portugal. The report on this consultation, which was launched in November 2006, was approved in June 2007.
