ERG meets for the third time

/ Updated on 19.11.2007

The European Union recommendation proposal, which encloses the notification process, deadlines and consultations under the article 7 of the Framework Directive, in the scope of the new regulatory framework for telecommunications, was discussed in the European Regulators Group (ERG) last meeting, on 28 March, in Brussels.

This recommendation will be yet, in April, analysed by the Electronic Communications Committee (ECC), from the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT), having the Commission to proceed, in June, to its adoption.

Bitstream access, which allows the development of broadband services and applications, and the significant market power (PMS) concept were also a matter of discussion in the ERG. Regarding to the first subject, the group adopted a common position and, as to the PMS, a common interpretation was prepared, which is expected to be published on its website in a short time.

The ERG also elected, unanimously, the new Vice Chairs.

Up to 30 June, the Head of the Finnish regulatory authority (FICORA) will take the ERG Vice Chair; these functions will be retaken by the Head of the Belgian regulatory authority (BIPT), from 1 July 2003.

This was the third ERG meeting, the working group that integrates the fifteen Member States of the European Union?s National Regulatory Authorities (ARN) and was created within the scope of the "99 Review".
