59th meeting of the Information, Computer and Communications Policy Committee - Paris

Paris hosted last 10-11 March the 59th meeting of the OECD’s Information, Computer and Communications Policy (ICCP) Committee.

The Committee approved the working programme and budget for 2011-2012 and also agreed to declassify by written procedure the revised document with suggestions from delegates. New procedures were adopted concerning election of the Bureaux and the flexibility of working methods.

Regarding ongoing membership processes, the Council has officially invited Chile to join the OECD. As for Estonia, Israel and Slovenia, plans call for study of the respective cases to be completed in the first half of 2010. Russia has in turn responded to the questionnaire sent by the OECD in 2009 and transmitted its initial memorandum, to which the delegates may submit their comments.

Noteworthy at the meeting was completion of the first part of the horizontal project on “Creating Partnerships to Promote Goals of the Internet Economy” and development of the second and third parts, for which the preliminary report should be presented in October 2010. Also envisaged is the holding of a workshop on the subject this coming June.

A joint ICCP-WPISP round table was also held and focused on the topic of “30 Years Later: the impact of OECD privacy guidelines”. Note also that in the wake of the decision to dedicate one day to debating a topic the Committee deems to be of interest, it was given over to the subject of “Smart ICTs and Green Growth”.

The next ICCP meeting should be held in Paris from 29 September to 1 October 2010.
