ERM Technical Committee TG11 meeting - Sophia Antipolis

The 24th meeting of TG11 of the ERM Technical Committee was held last 11-12 March at the ETSI offices in Sophia Antipolis.

ANACOM presented to TG11 a proposal mainly meant to integrate in the new version of the EN 300 328 standard use of a semi-anechoic chamber for radiation trials, specifically to measure Equivalent Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP). Given the technical complexity of the comments presented, there will be an offline discussion to present to TG11 a new text proposal in coming weeks, which will be subject to approval at the next meeting.

The revision of EN 300 328 took up practically the entire meeting agenda, with consensus on various pending concepts and definitions, such as values for the duty cycle, Tx-sequence, Tx-gap, hopping frequency separation and finally medium utilisation (MU) for frequency hopping equipment, as well as the possibility of including an operational mode for medical implants which allows their reading/programming with MU>10% and, lastly, the standard’s scope maintains the exclusion of ultra wide band (UWB) equipment.

The TG11 head discussed several aspects of this revision, specifically the fact that the new EN 300 328 version will have a major impact on industry, due to the many changes in both form and content, recommending a long period of transition from one version to the other of about 36 months after the publication of version 1.8.1 – plans thus call for version 1.7.1 to be in force until 31 December 2014. The next meeting is scheduled for this coming 6-7 May in Frankfurt.
